EXPECT TO WIN.....!!!!!!
Beckville Bearcats beat Union Grove Lions tonight 50-46 in a spirited match. Coach Donald Hubbard's debut game was nothing short of nail-biting as the Bearcats kept a running score that just kept ahead of the Lion's offense. Beckville's greatest lead was late in the 4th quarter with the score at 50-38. Union Grove blew past the Beckville defense to score their final touchdown bringing the score to its final conclusion. Look for details of tonight's game in Wednesday's edition of The Panola Watchman. View game photos at SCOTTSHOTS. Great game guys!!! Sorry I don't know enough about the game to do it justice but just wait, Ted Leach will take care of that! Posted by beckville at 12:05 AM

BECKVILLE VARSITY BASEBALL
May 7, 2006 Our Beckville Varsity Boys Baseball team played two exciting games Saturday night to secure their title as Bi-District Champions. Both games were against the Cayuga Wildcats and provided edge-of-your-seat entertainment. This was a best of (2 out of 3) series played at Jacksonville High School Stadium. Information about Area playoffs will be posted as soon as they are available. Last word was that the next series would also be played at Jacksonville. The first game was a runaway success with Beckville shutting out the Wildcats 14-0. Several spectacular plays from the Bearcats kept the crowd cheering. Charlie "Red" Dailey impressed both defensively as pitcher for the entire game and also offensively as he hurdled over the hindcatcher to score a run at home. No one was more surprised than the hindcatcher! As the Bearcats scored 9 points in the first inning, it was evident to the Wildcats that they were sufficiently outmatched. The Bearcats went on to score 1 point and 4 points in subsequent innings. Beckville was declared the winner after the Wildcats at-bat in the 5th inning. Following a 40 minute break, play resumed for the second game of the series. Cayuga rallied much more determined and led the Bearcats for a nail-biting 1-0 at the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Bearcats resumed the lead in the 4th inning and pulled ahead in the 5th. Following a 3-up 3-down series by pitcher Lance Dorman in the last inning, Beckville won the game with a final score of 5-3. Highlights of the game included the ejection of Cayuga's hindcatcher, Senior Daniel Hilton #1 and Bearcat courtesy runner, Freshman, Drew Hightower #17, following an altercation at home plate. Hightower pulled a major league tactic trying to reach home plate and charged the hindcatcher who was standing in the baseline. Hinton's reaction was to pop the runner on top of the head. The umpire's immediate reaction was to eject Hinton for unsportsmanlike conduct. After much discussion, Hightower left the game as well. Pitchers for this game were Charlie "Red" Dailey #3, Justin Newman #18, and Lance Dorman #4. NOTE: ANY STATISTICAL ERRORS ARE THE FAULT OF THE WRITER AND NOT THE SCOREKEEPER. PLEASE E-MAIL ANGIE@BECKVILLE.COM TO ADVISE OF ANY CORRECTIONS. Photos of the game are available in the Sports section at http://scottshots.dotphoto.com Posted by beckville at 11:09 AM

Cory Morris - Plays for the Majors
BECKVILLE BOY MAKES THE MAJORS! Beckville native Cory Morris signed his contracts Sunday to play for the Baltimore Orioles as Relief Pitcher. Cory is the son of John & Sharon Morris of Carthage and is married to Lori-Ann Gary of Beckville. The couple has two children. BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles expanded their thin pitching staff to 12 players Sunday, purchasing the contract of reliever Cory Morris and designating catcher Raul Chavez for assignment. The Orioles started the season with the theory that having three catchers was more important than playing with 12 pitchers. But manager Sam Perlozzo tapped into the bullpen heavily during the first five games, which left him with little choice but to increase the relief staff. "We still felt we needed some (bullpen) insurance. We just needed another pitcher," Perlozzo said Sunday. Morris never pitched above the Double-A level since being drafted by the Orioles in the 15th round of the 2001 amateur draft. He was 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA in seven spring training appearances. "He showed he can pitch a little bit. We're willing to give it a shot," Perlozzo said. "He attacked hitters. He didn't show me he was afraid." Chavez appeared in one game defensively for the Orioles and didn't have a plate appearance. He was claimed on waivers from Houston on March 31. Baltimore has 10 days to trade him or release him; after that time, Chavez can become a free agent or accept the demotion to the minor leagues. With Chavez gone, the Orioles' two catchers are Ramon Hernandez and Javy Lopez. Kevin Millar will be the emergency third catcher. "He's the only one who volunteered," Perlozzo said. "I'm not looking for quality, I'm looking for quantity at that point." AP NEWS Copyright 2005-2006, The Associated Press, All Rights Reserved Posted by beckville at 12:22 PM
