Vacation Bible School
Beckville United Methodist Church is hosting Vacation Bible School next week. This is an evening event starting Monday, June 19-22 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each night. It is for ages 4 years thru those who just completed 5th grade. There is no charge and all are invited to attend. The theme this year is “Treasure Seekers” and there are lots of activities and fun events. Thursday, June 22nd parents, family and friends will be treated to a special program to wrap up a time of learning and fellowship.
The Methodist Church is located in Beckville, south of the railroad tracks on Spur 152. Kim Hagedorn is the minister and is looking forward to seeing you there.

Beckville claimed one superlative and three first-team selections on the 2006 19-A All-District Softball Team.
Freshman Kristen Alexander was named Co-Newcomer of the Year, while junior pitcher Rebecca Ogden, freshman infielder Jessica Odom and sophomore outfielder Adrienne Goins were selected first-team.
Overton's Megan Everett earned first-team catcher honors.
Carlisle pitcher Krista Nichols was named district MVP, while Mount Enterprise's Hollie Henderson and Blaine Perry were selected as the MVP Pitcher and MVP Catcher, respectively.
Mount Enterprise's Andrea McClendon and Carlisle's Brittni Will were Co-Offensive MVPs. Joaquin's Gabrielle Boyett and Jessica Owen were named Defensive MVP and Utility Player, respectively, and Cheyanne Long shared Co-Newcomers of the Year with Alexander.
Joaquin's Ashley Dean and Mount Enterprise's Jutin Keeling were selected as Co-Coaches of the Year.
The remaining first-team selections included: Joaquin's Alix Andres (pitcher), Gina Mathery (infielder), Jordan Gray (infielder) and Ciara O'Rear (outfielder); Carlisle infielders McLeaha Coleman and Lindsey Hamilton; Tenaha's Cierra Beatriz (infielder) and Destiny Bellamy (outfielder); and Mount Enterprise's Farrah Risinger (infielder) and Jennifer Vault (outfielder).

Funeral Services Set for Larry Hutto
The community of Beckville is mourning the loss of Rev. Larry Eugene Hutto who died Sunday, June 4 in Longview, following a brief hospital stay.
Mr. Hutto was a well known and well loved figure in our community. He will be greatly missed by his friends at Poppy's and all over town. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this very difficult time.
The body will lie in state at Hawthorn Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 beginning at noon. The family will receive visitors at Hawthorn Funeral Home, Tuesday night from 6-8 p.m. Bro. Lynn Ogden will officiate services at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Central Baptist Church.
